Advance your leadership skills on a Vincentian foundation

With a master’s degree in Counseling, you’ll transform lives using careful, considered approaches to complex human problems. Our graduate counseling program is one of the largest in Illinois and produces skilled leaders in each of its specialty areas which are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Educational Programs (CACREP).

Courses are offered weekday evenings and Saturdays on the Lincoln Park Campus in person, hybrid, asynchronous and synchronous formats. The program can be completed in three years.

Provide guided instruction for Chicago students

Directly impact the diverse population of Chicago by working in our Education and Counseling Center. This learning laboratory offers a variety of programs and events for children and teens. You’ll gain experience providing individual and group counseling to school-aged children.

Application Deadlines

The Counseling program admits new students every fall quarter. It has set admission deadlines, and prospective students must complete an application by the deadlines provided below. An in-person interview will be scheduled for applicants in March. People unable to attend the in-person interview will be able to schedule a Zoom interview date. Completing an application by the priority deadline is highly encouraged.
FALL TERM DEADLINES:
Priority Deadline: February 15
Final Deadline: June 15
Admission Requirements
Submit an online application, letters of recommendation, essay, résumé, personal statement and official transcripts.
Required Courses
Based on your specialty area, you’ll take 90 credit hours of core curriculum and specialty area coursework, as well as practicum, internship, and elective courses.

At DePaul, you’ll learn from faculty like Assistant Professor Rebecca Michel who recently published an article that was recognized as the Most Valuable Article of the Year by ACA AdultSpan Journal. At DePaul, you’ll have the opportunity to learn from her in courses like contextual dimensions of college student development and career counseling.
