MENP Prerequisites

General Information

The four MENP pre-requisite courses are listed below and must

Be completed within 7 years before starting the MENP program
Be completed at a regionally-accredited college or university
Have minimum grades of C or better. Pass/Fail grades will not be accepted.
Be completed before the start of term to which you are applying

In addition:

Applicants must complete at least two courses to be considered for conditional admission
Applicants who have completed all of the pre-requisites are given priority consideration in the review process
Students who do not have science backgrounds are encouraged to complete 3-4 pre-requisites before applying
The School of Nursing strongly recommends applicants take no more than two self-paced online courses towards pre-requisites.
- The prerequisite delivery mode is one aspect of the committee's holistic approach to application review. Other considerations include previous degrees awarded, overall academic ability, recommendation letters, writing sample, and the strength of the applicant in comparison to the applicant pool.

NOTE: We do not accept prerequisite courses taken through: Corexcel, Penn Foster, Sophia.org, Straighterline, or Study.com.

General/Inorganic Chemistry - 1 course with lab
A college-level general chemistry course that covers the periodic table of the elements, atomic structure, basic concepts of quantum theory, bonding, stoichiometry of compounds and reactions, thermochemistry, the gaseous state, basic concepts of the liquid and solid states, solutions, acid and bases, equilibrium, acid-base equilibria, solubility equilibria, kinetics, thermodynamics, electrochemistry, coordination compounds, nuclear chemistry and descriptive topics in inorganic chemistry. Must include a lab.
Microbiology OR Biochemistry OR Organic Chemistry - 1 course with lab component
A one-term course in any of the above areas. Must include a lab.

If taking organic chemistry, topics should include structure, bonding, molecular properties, reactivity and nomenclature of alkanes, cycloalkanes, alkenes and alkynes; stereochemistry, alkyl halides, reaction mechanisms, nucleophilic substitution and elimination, conjugated dienes, mass spectrometry; IR, NMR, and UV spectroscopy, benzene, aromaticity and electrophilic aromatic substitution, organometallic compounds, alcohols, phenols and ethers, aldehydes and ketones, carboxylic acids and derivatives, dicarbonyl compounds, carbohydrates, amines, amino acids and proteins, heterocyclic compounds, and nucleic acids.
Human Anatomy/Anatomy & Physiology I - 1 course with lab
A survey course of the physical structure of human cells, tissues, and organs. This may be a stand-alone Human Anatomy course or it may be a combined Human Anatomy and Physiology course. If you take the stand-alone Human Anatomy, you must take the stand-alone Human Physiology and not the sequenced Anatomy & Physiology combined. Must include a lab.

Course content should cover the major function of the major organs and organ systems of the body. If you take the stand-alone Human Anatomy, you must take the stand-alone Human Physiology and not the sequenced Anatomy & Physiology combined. Must include a lab.
