• CbR Faculty Fellow can receive up to $5,000 stipend (in multiple installments) based on the rationale for time required to support research goals. The stipend is meant to support the time necessary to develop relationships with community partners and to collaboratively design research projects that are substantially integrated into a course or courses as the primary assignment. As such, faculty stipends are limited to those faculty who integrate collaboratively designed research projects with teaching through a credit-bearing course.  Faculty overseeing a credit-bearing independent study where CbR is conducted collaboratively with a single student (graduate or undergraduate) are eligible for a $500 stipend per quarter of the independent study. Please allow up to one fully quarter ahead of time to submit requests for stipends.
• Community partner stipends are based on the level of involvement of the community partner and are limited to $1000 per partner per fellowship project.  Note: community partner stipends are limited to those CbR projects that integrate collaboratively designed research projects with teaching through a credit-bearing course.  
• Funded graduate or undergraduate research assistants can be requested on a quarterly basis for up to one academic year with possibility for extension based on the timeline of the research project. Faculty are responsible for recruiting their research assistants. Research assistants are paid by stipend.
• Transportation support can be provided through access to Steans Center vans (4 available) and/or rental of a bus for larger groups.
• Support for attending and presenting at a conference in the United States can be requested on a limited basis. Funding includes registration and travel costs (transportation, room and board).  Conference support is limited to those faculty who integrate teaching with their CbR project. See evaluation criteria below. Note: conference support is limited to presenting on those CbR projects that are integrated with teaching through a credit-bear course.  See evaluation criteria below.
• On a limited basis, the Steans Center can support costs related to publishing the results of CbR Faculty Fellowship projects.
• On a limited basis, the Steans Center can provide support for equipment (e.g., software) necessary to achieve the goals of the CbR Faculty Fellowship project.
• On a limited bases, the Steans Center can support the cost of compensating research participants (e.g., gift cards) for CbR projects that are integrated with DePaul curriculum through a credit-bearing course.
• Projects driven by the interests of a community/community organization.
• Proposals should include well articulated benefits to a community or set of communities (i.e., improve the quality of life for residents and contribute to the assets of communities)
• Projects should be collaboratively designed and draw on the faculty member’s and community partner's expertise.
• Preference will be given to projects that also advance the faculty member’s scholarship
• Preference will be given to projects that support development of students’ community-based research skills
• A letter of support will be requested prior to final approval of the fellowship (do not submit the letter with the proposal)
• For research assistant support, include a well articulated descirption of how the student will support the project and advance their academic and/or professional development.
• All human subjects related research must be cleared by DePaul’s IRB prior to implementation.

Report. A minimum 1000-word research report or working paper will be submitted to the community-based organization partner(s) and the Steans Center for Community-based Service Learning at the end of the fellowship project.

Conference. For conference support, a paper proposal based on the research will be submitted to the Steans Center at the time of submission to the proposed conference. The Steans Center will fund reasonable expenses for conference attendance for both the Fellow and the student research assistant or a community partner within a year of completion of the project.

Publication. If the fellow submit a manuscript, video or other for of creative works, the Steans Center should be acknowledged. Note: "publication" is understood as scholarship that is in a form, format or style relevant to the faculty member's discipline.

Submit proposals at any time during the year through the online form on this webpage. Once your submission is received it will be reviewed and you will receive a response within one week of submission. If for some reason you do not receive a response, please contact hrosing@depaul.edu

Based on your proposal, you may be required to submit additional documentation, as noted in the guidelines. Once the proposal and all documentation is in place, the Steans Center will inform the faculty member as to the outcome of their proposal.  Final decisions on fellowship proposals will be made within one month of submission. All funding is based on available budget which may vary at different times of the academic and fiscal year.
