Animation is no longer only associated with cartoons and entertainment. It is a critical element in advertising, Web design and filmmaking. DePaul's bachelor's degree in Animation program emphasizes traditional animation techniques and storytelling, while encouraging experimentation in form, content and medium.

As an Animation major, you will take courses in:

  • 3-D animation
  • Animation production
  • Design
  • Drawing
  • History of animation
  • Motion graphics
  • Narrative development
  • Screenwriting
  • Stop-motion animation
To develop your animation skills, you will produce live action videos, draw Web-based shorts inspired by Hollywood or anime, or design motion graphics for film titles and commercials.

The College of Computing and Digital Media has a strong relationship with many of Chicago's animation and production studios, allowing you to gain real-world experience through internships. Animation faculty members have had previous careers in animation, production, film, art and interactive media, serving as resources and counselors as you enter the media industry.

We also offer a combined bachelor's/master's degree program, which allows you to complete a bachelor's degree and a graduate degree in five years.
