DePaul's bachelor's of fine arts degree in Animation program is designed for students who are serious about careers as animation artists, character animators, game artists, CGI (computer-generated imagery) effects animators and motion graphics animators.
The program will provide you with a foundation in the art of animation and its history, combined with intense practice in art and production. You will take courses in:
- Animation production
- History of animation
- Motion graphics
- Narrative development
- Stop-motion animation
The program offers concentrations in Cinema and Game Art. With the Cinema concentration you'll gain hands-on experience bringing digital characters to life. You'll also receive in-depth instruction in the most up-to-date software and technology available, including motion capture and green screen, with an emphasis on:
- Animation mechanics
- Visual storytelling
The Game Art concentration provides in-depth instruction in the latest advanced game modeling and animation technology and practices, including motion capture, rigging and digital sculpting, with an emphasis on:
- Color theory
- Visual design principles
We also offer a combined bachelor's of fine arts/master's degree program, which allow you to complete a bachelor's of fine arts degree and a graduate degree in five years.
The College of Computing and Digital Media has a strong relationship with many of Chicago's animation and production studios, allowing you to gain real-world experience through internships. Animation faculty members have had previous careers in animation, production, film, art and interactive media, serving as resources and counselors as you enter the media industry.
