Types of Aid

Financial aid can come from many different sources, including the federal and state government, private associations and organizations, your employer and DePaul itself.

While you can apply for as many types of financial aid as you'd like, it's important to understand what each offers — and what you'll be responsible for now and after graduation.

Financial aid is grouped into two main categories:

Gift aid is financial assistance that you do not have to repay. It's often awarded based on financial need or academic merit. It includes:

Self-help is financial assistance that must be repaid — or it asks something in return, like work or volunteer hours. It includes:
