Here's a list of courses we recommend transfer students take before enrolling here at DePaul. Choose the college you're planning to enroll in to learn more.
The following courses are recommended to be completed prior to your transfer into the Driehaus College of Business:
All of these courses are required for every student in the Driehaus College of Business and courses need to be completed with a grade of ‘C’ or better.
If you plan to major in science, we recommend that you select your major early in your college career.
Most science majors require a large number of introductory and prerequisite courses. If you don’t take certain classes right away, it may take you longer than four years to complete your degree.
For many of the science, health and math majors, we recommend that you complete two semesters or three quarters of calculus before you transfer here. This will help you be prepared for the math required to take many upper level science and major courses.
You don’t have to complete these core requirements before transferring, but we highly recommend you take equivalent courses whenever possible. Along with general education courses, we recommend you take some of these core course in your intended majors:
No matter which of our three schools your major is associated with, courses from your community college should transfer here to DePaul. Course recommendations vary considerably by major; use the transfer tools available on the Transferring Your Courses webpage or contact us if you have specific questions about whether a course will transfer and apply in a specific major.
No matter which major you choose to study, you should find courses at your community college that are likely to have equivalents at DePaul. Contact us or use the transfer tools available on the Transferring Your Courses webpage prior to taking courses at your community college.
We recommend you complete your general education requirements—at DePaul we call them the Liberal Studies Program—at your community college. Don’t take too many courses in the same discipline, even if you plan to major in it. Although the credit may transfer, often these courses don’t match our program requirements and end up taking the place of electives you could have chosen here at DePaul.
There is an exception—Modern Languages. If you want to study a language, take as many courses as you can. You can’t declare a major in Modern Languages until you’ve reached the intermediate level, so completing as many introductory courses as you can decreases the number of pre-major courses you’ll need to take here at DePaul.
Complete your math requirements as soon as possible. Early math success correlates
to overall success in college. Each of our majors includes quantitative reasoning and technological literacy (or calculus) plus a science requirement, so taking these courses before transferring to DePaul is a good plan.
